Sailing course aboard a cruising yacht – 5 days, mainland–Corsica one way

One-way crossing, outbound (mainland → Corsica) or return (Corsica → mainland), in a cabin with a skipper. Comfortable offshore cruise, for 2 to 5 people. Departure port: Fréjus outbound, Calvi or L'Île-Rousse on the return. Arrival port: Calvi or L'Île-Rousse outbound, Fréjus on the return. Both Corsican ports are served by train.

Sailing course aboard a cruising yacht – 10 days, Corsica round trip

From Fréjus, a 10-day sailing course combining discovery, improvement, offshore sailing and night sailing. Head for Corsica and the French Riviera, between the Estérel and Cap Camarat, Cap Taillat and Cap Lardier, then the Îles d'Or: Porquerolles, Port-Cros and Le Levant. Departure and arrival port: Fréjus.

Highlight of the trip: two semi-offshore mainland–Corsica crossings, with helming watches, keeping the logbook and dead reckoning. You reach Calvi, then the Balagne as far as L'Île-Rousse, before returning to Fréjus. All supervised by a qualified, experienced skipper (1 instructor for 2 to 5 people).

Expert's note

The Corsica–mainland crossing represents between 15 and 30 hours of sailing. Experience required: knowing that you feel at ease on a sailboat.

Programme

• Day 1 · Fréjus / Cavalaire: Provisioning, presentation of the yacht, safety briefing and first harbour manoeuvres. Departure from Fréjus towards the Gulf of Saint-Tropez via Pampelonne beach and Cap Camarat, Cap Taillat and Cap Lardier. Holding a course, heaving to under sail. Arrival at Cavalaire.
• Day 2 · Cavalaire / Port-Cros / Porquerolles: Theory lesson, harbour and sailing manoeuvres, lunch break at anchor in Port-Cros, passage planning, man-overboard recovery exercise. Stopover at Porquerolles.
• Days 3 to 4 · Porquerolles / Corsica (Calvi): Short hike on the island for those who like it, theory lesson and briefing on night watches, safety manoeuvres. Offshore sailing with logbook and dead reckoning, night sailing, taking a watch and keeping lookout. Arrival at Calvi.
• Days 5 to 6 · Calvi: Debrief of the crossing, discovering Calvi on foot or on a walk, theory lesson on the rules of navigation, coastal sailing to improve sail trim and performance. Return to Calvi.
• Days 7 to 8 · Calvi / Île-Rousse / Calvi: Theory lesson and briefing, sequences of sailing manoeuvres, sail trim and boat balance, learning to reef. General and individual debrief.
• Days 9 to 10 · Crossing from Calvi to the mainland: Briefing on night watches and safety, safety manoeuvres, offshore sailing (logbook, dead reckoning) and night sailing. Arrival at the port of Fréjus.

The itinerary may be changed depending on the weather or for technical or logistical reasons, to ensure everyone's safety and comfort.
